Sognefjorden Adventure

Cecilie and I spent a week walking the mountain range south of Sognefjorden in the western part of Norway.  Sognefjorden is the Longest (204 km) and Deepest fjord in the World (1308m at it deepest).  The mountains around Vik and Fresvik are spectacular,  rising to 1500 m straight up from the fjord level. It also contains a lot of rich vegetation and even a large glacier.  As a Norwegian, I can't believe I havent been walking these mountains before now :-)  We met a nice Dutch couple who had just set up an adventure business in Vik, http://www.sognadventure.no .  They provide guided hikes and rent out kayak and mountain bike equipment, so hook up with them when you go there.

Of course, everything is now tracked with GPS and documented with camera:

New York City Marathon on Google Maps

I ran the New York City Marathon in 2003 with a GPS receiver and just might make a comeback this year. During the run I shot some pics you will see when you replay one of the racers on Google Maps

Notice the great Hybrid image! Google Maps open API sounds like a disruptive change in map use. It will be interesting to follow and check out all the new apps coming out of this. The world will never be the same.

Central Park 6Mile Loop

The full Central Park loop on approx. 6 miles - great for marathon preparations.

The runners tracked their run with GPS receiver. Check out their run on the Sportsim beta with Google Maps, very cool!

Find more information about this run on the New York Road Runners web site.

Run For Central Park, July 23rd 2005

On my visit to NYC this week I participated in a race held in Central Park organized by the New York Road Runners.
It was a great 4 mile race in sunshine with about 3,500 participants!

Run For Central Park is a co-event between Central Park Conservancy and NYRR.
The race theme is to support the work required to keep Central Park as the greatest City Park in the world.
Can you imagine NYC without Central Park?  well, I can't!

The race is included in this blog with the following apple tag code:

<applet
  name="Sportsim track simulation"
  code="Possim.class"
  codebase=" http://www.sportsim.com/possim"
  archive="Possim.jar"
  width="780"
  height="595"
  align="Top"
  alt="Please install java from java.com"
>
<param name=Debug Value="0">
<param name=EventId Value="151">
<param name=Background Value="ffffff">
<param name=ForeGround Value="333366">
</applet>

When you make a new race with the Sportsim application, then change the value of the EventId Value
- here set to 151.
Find the EventId as the final digits in the browser address that pops up when you click the blue link
